During the hectic year following the COVID-19 outbreak, the medical industry was urgently seeking answers to numerous questions, including how to accelerate research tests to obtain life-saving results sooner. A leading global robotics company had a groundbreaking idea for a solution and reached out to APE to be the mechanical partner for their project's design and build.

The project required the development of two separate robotic cells, along with the incorporation of infeed and outfeed racking solutions. Situated between the two cells was another machine being built by a third party, which necessitated integration on both sides by APE.
Given the time-critical nature of this project, we had to combine tried-and-true design concepts with innovative new designs to meet both technical and schedule requirements. Utilizing our Design-Thru-Fab methodology, we were able to create and build and design in a fraction of the time it would take an ordinary shop.
Working hand in hand with our customer’s engineering staff, we incorporated a wide range of third-party products into the system. These included presence sensors, interlocks, door switches, linear actuators, and the robots themselves. This collaborative effort ensured that all components worked seamlessly together, enhancing the overall efficiency and functionality of the system.


The result of the project was the deployment of critical medical research tools, significantly multiplying the research effort in an incredibly short amount of time. The system's beautiful aesthetics, while appealing to the eye, were also designed to meet the clean room environment standards, ensuring all surfaces could be sanitized effectively.
This project is a prime example of how partnering with APE can expedite and amplify a company's engineering efforts, especially when critical projects need to be designed and built swiftly. By leveraging our expertise and innovative methodologies, we were able to deliver a solution that not only met the urgent needs of the medical research community but also set a benchmark for future projects.
